Scentsy Light Bulbs

29 May 2020 By LA 2 Comments

scentsy lightbulbs

Below you will find everything you wanted to know about light bulbs for your Scentsy candle warmers.

I have an idea that you may have some burning questions about Scentsy light bulbs. You may not know watt you don’t know, but the hot answers can be found here.

Did you see watt I did there? If you’re bright you’ll notice it was light bulb humor. Otherwise, I guess you’re dim. But you won’t be after you read below.

In North America, most of our Scentsy candle warmers use light bulbs to warm our fragrant wickless scented wax. All of our warmers that use a light bulb use a small candelabra base bulb and all have a lightbulb included with all warmer orders.

15-watt Scentsy Bulb

Our smaller wall plug-in, mini-warmer, night lights use a 15-watt bulb. If you have to replace the lightbulb in your Scentsy nightlight make sure it is a 15-watt bulb. I say this because there are also some appliance bulbs that look the same but are less than 15-watt. You’ll have trouble with wax not melting completely if you don’t use a 15-watt.  All bulbs have the wattage printed on their base.

20-watt Scentsy Bulb

Our warmers that are three-piece with a lid – such as some of our holiday themed warmers use a 20-watt bulb.

Also on the bottom of all of our warmers, except the nightlights, you will see a tag saying it’s a Scentsy warmer and what watt bulb it takes.

25-watt Scentsy Bulb

Our flagship product was developed in 2003 using a 25-watt warmer. Most of our warmers, other than described above use a 25-watt bulb. Look on the bottom of the warmer if you’re not sure.

Special Scentsy Bulbs?

When I started with Scentsy in 2006 our lightbulbs were packaged in a Sylvania box. That’s a common light bulb brand that you can get at any home improvement store such as Lowes, Home Depot, Ace, True Value, even Target, Wal-Mart and Meijer.

Our bulbs are now packaged especially for us. We are the largest light bulb customer in the United States. I would think that designation applies to the entire world. The box is Scentsy, the bulbs are not unique.

Where to Get Replacement Bulbs

The best place to get replacement bulbs is through my Scentsy webstore here. If you’re placing an order for more wax or any of our other new fabulous products that you may not know we now have, add some bulbs to your order. They sell for 3/$5.00. That’s a good deal.

However, if you only need a bulb for now, or if you’re no longer using your Scentsy simply because your bulb burned out, by all means head to one of the local home improvement stores mentioned above and get bulbs so you can get your Scentsy back on.  Just make sure you have the correct watt bulb. That way you’re not paying $10 shipping on just one or two light bulbs.

If you use a bulb with less watts than required, your wax won’t melt as it’s intended to. If you use too high of a watt, you’re potentially creating a fire hazard. That is true though for any electric lamp you have in your home.

Won’t Using Other Bulbs Void the Warranty?

I sometimes hear of new consultants telling their customers that it will void the warranty on the warmer if they don’t use our lightbulbs. That is not accurate.

If you use a higher than required bulb and you end up having electrical problems – such as the bulb popping and breaking, or extremely rare, but smoke or fire, then that would not be covered under warranty because you used the wrong watt bulb.

It is IMPORTANT to note – that Scentsy has passed all UL safety certification and they truly are a SAFE alternative to wicked candles. Scentsy is safe. Let me say that again. Scentsy is safe – as long as you do your part.

Any electric appliance or lamp is subject to a potential fire hazard if you use a bulb that is too hot, or if you have problems with your electrical outlets or even if you have paper or fabric too close to the bulb.

After all, it IS a light bulb and it DOES get hot.

How Can the Scentsy Warmers Be Hot but Still Safe?

Scentsy wax melts at 125 degrees Fahrenheit. This is a relatively low temperature. When my children were younger they used to “play CSI” with the wax. You can stick your finger in our wax and it won’t burn. Then you can let it cool a moment and peel it off to have little wax fingerprints.

That said, as mentioned above, we still use a lightbulb that does get hot. The difference with our candle warmers that use a light bulb is that if anyone or a pet touches the side of the warmer it won’t instantly burn. You will be reminded that it’s hot, but you can leave your hand on it for three seconds (Who would do that? But you can.) without it being painful or burning.

Whereas if you touched a flame on a candle or a different kind of candle warmer that doesn’t use a light bulb you will instantly find that much hotter and likely painful.

Exceptions

Scentsy Edison Light BulbEdison

We do have a couple other Scentsy candle warmers that have light but don’t use a 15, 20 or 25 watt bulb. We have a handful of current warmers that use an Edison 40 watt bulb. Some of our previous warmers that used a 40w Edison bulb are the Parlor Shade and Country Light Lampshade. The Edison bulb is a little harder to find locally, but they are still available. You can also find them online through Scentsy here.

Add some COLOR to your warmers

Scentsy also offers colored 25 watt light bulbs in Green, Orange, Purple, and Red.

LED

A few of our warmers are made with an LED light.  There is no way to change the LED light on those warmers. It’s encased. If the light goes out on it, it’ll be replaced under our lifetime warranty against defects. Contact your consultant to exchange it.

Summary:

  • Most Scentsy warmers use 15, 20 and 25 watt light bulbs and it’s imperative that you replace bulbs with the correct watt.
  • They aren’t special bulbs and won’t void the warranty if you use some from a local store.
  • Your best bet is to get them through my Scentsy webstore here when you’re already placing an order for more wax.

What Kind of Wax Does Scentsy Use?

What kind of wax does Scentsy use

What Kind of Wax Does Scentsy Use in Candle Bars?

In answer to the frequently asked question, “What Kind of Wax does Scentsy use?” the following was response below provided by Scentsy Co-Owner and CEO, Orville Thompson. It first appeared in February 2006, and still holds true today.

Many customers have asked about the wax we [Scentsy] use and why. Here is the scoop.  We use a food-grade petroleum [paraffin] based wax. We chose this wax because of its superior scent loading ability, melt point and firmness.  We looked into vegetable based waxes, and we just couldn’t get a quality candle bar.

The issue of vegetable vs. petroleum [paraffin] waxes is raised primarily by vegetable wax candle makers because of the health risks associated with burning petroleum waxes.

Most of the scientific research I have read (as opposed to sales literature) suggests that there are plenty of health issues with burning candles of any type of wax. Switching to vegetable based waxes does not seem to reduce the health risks as much as the veggie wax people would like us to believe. The Scentsy solution is simply not to burn the wax. The wax is not burned, and therefore, not released into the air to pollute our lungs, walls and furniture.

The issue of the type of wax we use is a non-issue, with regard to the chemicals released while burning, because we only warm the scent out of the wax – the wax remains in the warmer. If customers have a question about what kind of wax we use, I always ask them why they ask.

This is because any answer other than “˜soy’ or “˜vegetable’ will put off anyone who is predisposed to using to using only vegetable wax, even if the logic explained later is sound. If they respond by saying they only use vegetable wax candles, or are asking out of simple curiosity, you can explain the Scentsy solution and how it is better than burning any kind of wax which put our products in the proper and positive light.

To put it simply, I would rather have petroleum wax in a warmer than a soy wax dispersed into the air of my home. Let wicked candle makers fight over relative safety. With Scentsy we practice “safer scents” – we abstain from wicks.

Now that you have a better understanding of what kind of wax Scentsy uses, and why, pick out your favorite scents here.

Scentsy Brick vs. Bar

The difference between a Scentsy brick vs. a bar?

A Scentsy candle brick is a pound of scented wax and equal to more than 5 candle bars.

Scentsy brick vs. bar, approximately five times the size. Scentsy bricks are only available to Scentsy Club members and through periodic seasonal promotions at incomewax.com
