Can’t Smell Candles Anymore?

24 July 2016 By LA Leave a Comment

Can’t smell your Scentsy candles anymore? Here’s why –

Having been in the candle industry for over 20 years, I sometimes hear how customers claim they can’t smell the candles and blame it on the company changing their formula.

Scentsy did not change the formulaBasset hounds have over 220 million smell receptors, and the portion of their brains tied to sense of smell is 40 times that of a human’s. Don’t you wish you were a basset hound?

The short answer to why you can’t smell Scentsy candles is that it’s your nose; not Scentsy.

What?! How Dare You Suggest It’s My Nose!

The scientific and technical explanation of why this is true can be found here. It’s called Anosmia or Olfactive Fatigue.

In layman’s, LA terms – it works like this: your nose gets used to or immune to certain components of your favorite candles. If you tend to warm the same type, such as spice/cinnamon scented candles frequently, it’s possible they will seem not as strong to you or you may even think they forgot to put the fragrance oil in them.

However, instead of spice, if you warm a floral or clean type scent or one you don’t particularly care for, you’ll definitely smell that one. It’s because your nose hasn’t become “nose blind” to those fragrance notes.

I know, I know some refuse to believe that. It tends to happen more often at the change of seasons. I hear about it year after year.

My Nose Quit Me Too

Consider this: I’ve been in the candle industry since 1995. I’ve been home based since 1999. I warm candles 365/24/7 unless I’m in a travel status. My favorite scents tend to be male cologne and warm fall scents. I warm them all year. [Read more…] about Can’t Smell Candles Anymore?

Scentsy Scent FAQ

SCENTSY WARMERS

What is a Scentsy Bar?

A Scentsy Bar is a block of fragrant wax in eight break-apart sections.

Where are Scentsy Bars made?

Scentsy manufactures all wax products at its headquarters in Meridian, Idaho.

What kind of fragrance oils are used in Scentsy Bars?

Scentsy uses both synthetic and naturally-derived fragrances oils to achieve the highest quality and longest-lasting bar. Synthetic oils are used for several reasons, including:

  • When using natural oils results in unrestrained use of limited or endangered natural resources.
  • When it isn’t possible to derive the natural oils from nature. For example, synthetic oil is necessary to reproduce lily of the valley because fragrance cannot be extracted from this flower through typical extraction methods.
  • When it is cost prohibitive to acquire natural oils and would preclude Scentsy from offering particular fragrances without increasing the price for customers.

What kind of wax is used to make Scentsy Bars?

We use a custom, high-quality paraffin wax blend designed to give you long-lasting fragrance and selected for its scent loading ability, melting point and firmness.

Why doesn’t Scentsy use a soy- or vegetable-based wax?

Soy- or vegetable-based waxes can produce a quality wicked candle, but not a quality wickless candle.

How many cubes of wax do I use in my warmer?

One or two cubes should be plenty. Once the scent runs out, replace the wax with fresh cubes. [Read more…] about Scentsy Scent FAQ

Replacement Scentsy Light Bulbs

11 July 2014 By LA 4 Comments

Where to Get Replacement Scentsy Light Bulbs

Scentsy candle warmers melt our wax using a 15, 20 or 25 watt light bulb. You can find replacement Scentsy light bulbs at many home improvement stores – although just be sure that you get the correct wattage for your particular warmer.

You also need to get the ones with the small candelabra base. You do not want to use an appliance bulb. It looks similar in shape to a 15 watt bulb, but it’s not the same watt. Be prepared to pay a little more at the home improvement store.

A better option is to get Replacement Scentsy light bulbs through us – you can stock up and order more wax while you’re at it.  We sell ours 3/$5. Get yours here or by clicking on the image below.
